About BS88 Fuses

Quick notes on the BS88 industrial fuse range.

  • BS88 (now BS EN 60269) is the British / European standard for high-breaking-capacity (HRC) industrial fuses used in distribution boards, control panels and motor circuits.
  • Fixing centres (44.5 / 73 / 94 / 111 / 133 / 165 mm etc.) describe the bolt-hole spacing between tags. They are the key dimension when replacing a fuse in an existing fuse-holder.
  • Off Set Tags have the tag offset from the body centreline; Central Tags have the tag on the body axis. The two are not interchangeable โ€” match the existing holder.
  • The BS88 reference (A1, A2, A3, A4, B1โ€“B4, C1โ€“C3) groups fuses by physical size class. Most modern catalogues quote both the BS88 ref and the fixing centres.
  • Letter codes (NIT, TIA, TIS, TCP, TF, TKF, TM, TTM, TLMโ€ฆ) are the long-standing GEC / Lawson naming. Cooper Bussmann (NITD, AAO, BAO, CEOโ€ฆ), MEM (SA2, SB3, SD5โ€ฆ) and Brush (F21, HO7, L14โ€ฆ) all have their own equivalents โ€” this chart lines them up row by row.
⚠ For guidance only. Cross references are based on Europa Components' published comparison chart. Always confirm the physical fit, voltage rating and breaking capacity against the manufacturer's data sheet before substituting a fuse.
